As long as you have a wireless internet connection, you can go online straight away. If not, you can buy a Nintendo dongle, which also allows you to go online too. However, if you do buy a Nintendo Dongle, make you its compatible with your computer. I bought one before i got a wireless internet connection and it wouldnt load. >.<
