"Oh, don't worry, my lady, I'm not at all surprised to find he is skeptic. With good reason, as well, it is not every day you encounter a god." He shrugged. "Although I am truly NOT a god. While I AM one of a kind and once worshipped during the Great Time of Peace, I must admit I have no godlike powers." He paused. "Unless you count shapeshifting and psychic abilities." "That sounds pretty godly to me." Shadic said. Edited by ShadictheHedgehog, Oct 24 2008, 10:31 PM.

"Well, not to me," Reed snorted, "Whilst the powers you describe are indded formidable, they are hardly of a divine status. Quite frankly, if you're a god, then I'm the Queen of Sheba. Which I'm not," he added, almost as an afterthought. Lauren rolled her eyes in exasperation; whether or not this mysterious being was a god, the scholar was just being plain rude now. For half a second, she contemplated leaving him behind in these caverns with Deity, but decided against it. |

"I agree." said the Deity. "And, I already told you I am NOT a god. During the Great Peace, people were...How shall I put this...Less scholarly. More primitive. They thought simply that since I had psychic abilities, shapeshifting, and looked unlike anything on this plane of existence, that I must be a god. And so, they built me this temple, which over time had eroded, and all thats left of it were my chambers beneath the mountain it was built around." |

"I guess temples are a santuary until the day they crumble to dust," Lauren remarked, elbowing Reed sharply in the ribs to stall any further comments, "We came in here to escape some Hell Hounds, but it looks like we've found more than we expected." |

"Ah yes. Hellhounds, I have discovered, are unable to step into holy places such as this. It is probably because of their classification as a specie of Demon." The Deity said. He shook his head. "I hope I never meet whoevers responsible for bringing them to this Universe, that counts as meddling with the Multiverse, which is of course, VERY dangerous, so in retrospect they too would be very dangerous..."

"So... you have no idea who could have brought them here?" Lauren asked, rubbing the back of her neck, "Well, I guess there's no helping it." "It doesn't matter who brought them here," Reed interjected, "What matters is that they are still out there, and even if they aren't sitting on the front doorstep, sooner or later they'll track us down and... well, you get the picture." Lauren nodded, a frown etched onto her features. "Is there anything we can do to kill them or stop them from following us? Deity? General?" |

(Thanks for finally posting. *thumbs up*) "Oh, Hellhounds can be killed all right." Shadic said. "But they're vicious brutes, and VERY strong. I once fought a single one with a whole troop of 20 men...It was too bloodthirsty to flee due to its wounds, but it still managed to take down about 13 of them before we killed it." "Hellhounds also do not like to give up chasing their quarry." Deity said. "But there is some good news. Since they fled from this cave, if you continue on and out the other side, they'll have to take the long way AROUND the mountain, since the whole thing is Holy, and it'll put them at least a day or two behind you...But erm, thats only if you don't stop to rest..." "It'll have to do." Shadic said. "C'mon everyone, we should be getting out of here." As they left Devlin noticed the Deity wasn't following. "Aren't you coming?" He asked. Deity shook his head. "No, no. This is my home. I have no business interfering with the actions of people of this plane. So now that I am awake, I will work on attempting to find a way back to my own Universe. But don't worry, we'll meet again some day. Now, be off with you, I must get to work..." Devlin shrugged and followed the others as they headed towards the exit tunnel. -- MEANWHILE... A certain evil hedgehog stood in his fortress by his Dark Mage assistant. He stared out the window, contemplating ways to defeat his brother...He snapped his fingers in realization. "Send a message to the Brothers." He said to the mage. The mage saluted and cast a spell, producing a light blue orb floating over his palm. A face appeared in the orb. "Oh. You. What do YOU want?" The person said, annoyed. "Lord Proto's brother should be nearing your location. Be on full alert and be ready to destroy at all costs." The dark mage replied, scowling. "Good, good. Finally we see some action around these parts." Replied the person, rolling his eyes. "Do not underestimate General Shadic. He's proven to be very...troublesome." "I think you'll find, sir, and I use the term sir loosely, that he will be no match for us." Said the person. "Now I must make preparations. Farewell." The orb suddenly winked out of existence. "Who does he think he...?!" Growled the mage. "Silence." Snapped Proto. "He's proven to be resourceful before. Plus he is much higher ranked among my followers than YOU are. So quiet your flapping tongue, or I will order it to be cut out." The mages mouth shut with a 'CLACK'. Edited by ShadictheHedgehog, Nov 23 2008, 09:05 PM.

Lauren gave a swift salute to the being and set off, with Reed following closely behind. At least we've got some good news... she mused, But the fact that we have to go without rest is worrying to say the least. "Say, Reed?" she asked over her shoulder, "You wouldn't happen to know any spells for..." She stopped and turned her head a bit further to see the scholar clenching and unclenching his fists slowly as he walked. "What's wrong?" "Just being in such close proximity to such telepathic power," the scholar replied, "I'm a bit disoriented, that's all. I need some time to clear my head... ah, you were saying?" Lauren began to repeat her query, but thought better of it. "Nothing, just curiousity. It can wait." Her gauntleted hand rapped the side of the walls gently. "I wonder how far these caverns extend..." |

"All the way to the other side of the mountain!" Called the Deitys voice. Apparently they were still within hearing range...Or, the echoes were just really loud. --- A few uneventful minutes later... The four furries walked out of the caves into the sunlight. They were now in the middle of a clearing, just inside of some random forest. Behind them was the mountain. "Well, he was right, the caves did lead the whole way across." Shadic said. |

"Of course, now we don't exactly know where we are," Reed said, "Did anyone bring a map?" Lauren snorted and swung her pack to the ground. "Naturally," she said, waving a finger in the air "A paladin must always be prepared. Now... let's see." She rifled through the items inside and pulled a short tube out. Unscrewing one end, she tipped it slightly and let the rolled parchment fall into her hand. "This was drawn up just before I left, so it's right up-to-date," she explained, "All we have to do is find where we are on the map." |
