Hellloooo! Well, I've split my fic into seasons. So yeah! I know I never finished the last chappy of the Summer one.... I lost my muse when I returned to school, haha.

CHAPTER 1: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Street lights began to flicker off on the quiet streets of Metropolis. The sun rose over the hills to the west and exposed the tall buildings settled in the heart of the city before it exposed the smaller building nestled in the suburbs. A breeze accompanied the sun, weaving through trees and bushes, sending loose leaves soaring before they spiraled onto the sidewalks of a quiet neighborhood seated at the mouth of a brilliant forest.

Though not yet autumn quite yet, Metropolis sure excreted the feeling. The temperatures had fallen into a comfortable sixty three degrees and only rose to around seventy throughout the days of early September. The heat of summer had died down for good with the passing tropical storm of late August.

Leaves began to change, but just barely. A brown or orange leaf would appear here or there every day. There was barely a hint of the approaching season except for the beautiful weather. Oh, well, that and the shops around the city decorating for Halloween and the costume shops opening up for business. No one would purchase anything yet, however. No children would want to eat month old candy. As of now, the only fun autumn had to offer were the rare oddly colored leaves.

One yellow leaf, the first of its kind, landed softly on the front porch of a house settled neatly in between two others, looking quite average. Suddenly, the front door opened, allowing a hand to pop out and grab the newspaper sitting plainly upon the welcome mat. The hand retreated back in through the door before reappearing to snatch the leaf into the warmth of the house.

“First leaf!” The brown feline called out, smiling widely as he used the living room as a shortcut to the kitchen.
It was empty except for the rays of sunlight through the green curtains. Suddenly, the house filled with blearing rock music with a particularly hard bass line. Billie the blonde and white cat’s alarm clock would also suffice as a name for it.
“No! Not yet…” Billie cried, hiding under the pillow as her eyes were exposed to the brightness of the sky outside her window compared to the darkness of her room.
Billie rolled over, falling flat on her face beside her bed. She quickly pulled herself up and opened the blinds after pressing “off” on her alarm. The sun did not show on her side of the house, but the sky was alight above the trees of the forest. The pool below had been covered for a day now, as the temperature would not rise again until March.

Across the hall, Pepper was twisted up in her blankets, feeling around the floor blindly for an object she could use to shut her alarm off. She grabbed her air-soft gun from under the bed and threw it across the room where it missed the alarm, hit the wall, and fired a small copper ball at top speed through the open door. A shattering noise was heard and a cry. Jake appeared in the room moments later, covered in a sticky brown substance.
“Well! If that’s how you’re going to be, I won’t bring you your morning caffeine anymore!” Jake said loudly, before realizing what had happened. “Oh.” He said, shaking his head, then left.
Pepper stared, now wide-awake, at the doorway. “I couldn’t get that to happen if I wanted to.” She stated, pulling herself up and out of bed, rubbing her tired eyes.

Billie spent twenty minutes in the bathroom before appearing in the kitchen wearing her Paramore shirt and skinny jeans. She sat down beside Jake and Pepper at the table and pulled the box of cereal towards herself. Pepper hissed and grabbed onto it too.
“Pepper, share.” Jake sighed from behind the newspaper.
Pepper stuck her tongue out.
Jake folded the first page and tossed it into the basket near the door to the garage. He turned over the second and gaped at the weather report printed under a map of the reason. He placed the paper down and traced a line across the diagram with his finger. Pepper glanced down and smiled broadly.
“We’re going to be in the sixties for the high by the end of the week!” She grinned. The forecast had jerked her perfectly out of her morning blues.

The morning went rather smoothly. Pepper pulled her stuff together humming a tune to herself. Jake and Billie chatted excitedly about how the three of them shared three out of four classes and lunch. Pepper and Billie shared the last class without Jake.
Another thing autumn ushered in; along with multi-colored leaves and the holidays… was school. Luckily, the gang felt no sadness in going back to school. There was no reason to dread the impending events. It was such a nice feeling to have nothing to dread in the world.

The walk to school was filled with animated conversation about the weather and Pepper's sadness at having to close the pool so early into the season. Billie changed the subject to her worry about Pepper being in a cooking class, but Jake assured her that the teacher had already received a head's up from the previous year's cafeteria woman who had to empty the fire extinguisher on a kitchen fire when Mrs. Krupp assigned Pepper a detention where she was forced to help in the cafeteria.
He and Billie shared quite a laugh at Pepper who folded her arms and claimed "Hey, you guys are just as clumsy as I am." which was shortly followed by her falling face-first into the neighbor's garbage can. Billie ended the conversation right there.
Halfway to school, Tsurugi and Zippo joined the group. Zippo was chattering about the advanced computers class he was placed in while Tsurugi explained their last day of summer in which the two of them had gone to the mall and it ended in a month long ban which was apparently "was way too long to describe in any other place but Mrs. Krupp's class." She winked and walked off to find her locker while Zippo headed for the computer lab to "test" the new systems.
Billie hopped up onto the oh-so familiar wall and dangled her feet over the side as Pepper clambered atop it beside her. Jake leaned casually beside it and watched the other students dancing around the campus either trying to find classes or friends.
The sun was low in the brilliant blue sky when the first bell rang, allowing the students to rush to their classes. Pepper, Billie, and Jake did not have to hurry, however. Mrs. Krupp's math class was the first inside on the lower level. They were the first set of students in and they graciously accepted seats in the very back.
"I'm so glad we're early." Billie commented. "That’s the last thing I need. I still need to serve Mrs. King's detention from last year." She put emphasis on the word "last."
Tsurugi clambered into the room just before the bell, taking a seat at the table in the corner table next to Jake as the room was completely full. She smiled at the gang with a wave, gesturing that Mrs. Krupp was not looking very happy.
"Morning class." Came the familiar blunt voice of the second most evil teacher in the school, teaching the most evil subject available.
The class rang back their greetings barely in unison.
"You all don't seem very happy to be back." Mrs. Krupp snapped.
"Duh." Billie hissed.
"Well get over it." Krupp said. "We'll start the year off right- with a quiz to see how much you actually studied over the summer.”
“A quiz?” Jake asked.
“Yes, or did you not hear me correctly? So you’re saying I don’t speak clearly enough for you? Making fun of my accent! Well I have news for you Jake, my accent is perfectly understandable and I don’t hear anyone else complaining about it!”
Jake put his hand down slowly, not even bothering to argue this early in the morning.
The woman was becoming more and more confusing.
The rest of the class passed by with barely any arguments. They took their quiz which seemed completely unfair yet surprisingly easy as it was items from the previous year. The hard part was remembering the subject matters on the test, like formulas. Mrs. Krupp let the students do what they pleased with their free fifteen minutes. Tsurugi jumped into her story about her adventure from the day before. It involved a box of spoons from the food court getting stuck in the printers in the computer store resulting in a large fire.
The release bell rang out, signaling time for Billie and Pepper to head for art with Tsurugi while Jake headed off to gym.

The art block passes by uneventfully with the teacher handing out syllabuses and explaining the use of each item in the room. Pepper managed to get her jacket snagged on a paintbrush in a jar, knocking over the jar which hit a board balanced on the edge of the counter, which shot a small container of paint into the air, landing on the teacher’s head. Jake's time in gym was spent playing a game of dodge ball with the younger kids which he cheated a bit, causing the children to "unexpectedly" slip and fall allowing him to win the game.
Third period was the most dreaded, Biology II with Mrs. King, AKA Mrs. Demon. Billie and Jake actually talked about the likeliness of her being a real witch straight out of a Halloween book who escaped one day and now in the book the fictional town is either rejoicing, or one of those evil towns who are sad she is gone. Billie laughed openly, completely missing Pepper who was waving her arms and pointing behind Jake’s head. She mouthed several un-interpretable words and gestured wildly. Billie looked up just in time to see Mrs. King.
“What was that, Pepper?” She asked, mouth curling into her unmistakable evil smile.
Pepper’s eyes grew at an alarming rate as she lowered her still airborne hands into her lap.
“Good day class,” Mrs. King began, pacing in front of the class. “Actually…” She trailed off, again, grinning. “I figured we should begin the year off right. First, I’ll go over the rules. I’ve made a few changes…”
Pepper and Billie exchanged glances of worry.
“First rule… you listen to everything I say and follow my every command perfectly and you might pass the class.”
“Might?” Jake asked to himself, a little too loud.
“Is there a problem?” Mrs. King asked.
Jake opened his mouth to speak.
“Silence! You don’t speak when I’m talking.”
“But I-”
“So now you’re going to have an attitude?” Mrs. King asked.
“I didn’t…”
“Jimmy! Did Jake have an attitude?”
The black lab in the corner named Jimmy looked up suddenly, eyes darting from Jake to Mrs. King.
“I-I don’t know.” He replied in a small voice.
“So now you’re defending him, huh?!”
Several kids raised their voices to speak up.
“Silence!” Mrs. King screamed.
“This isn’t fair!”
“She’s evil!”
Multiple voices rang out throughout the room.
Mrs. King raised her whistle. "Don't make me blow this! Do not make me blow this! I’ll throw you all in detention!"
The classes eased itself to a silence.
“I see we’re going to have some problems with this class.” Mrs. King muttered. “As you all appear to be little delinquents…”
Pepper looked at Jake mouthing “She’s crazy.”
“Continuing on… the second rule of my class is no gum, no electronics, food, drinks, nothing.” She said quickly, almost as if to avoid interruption. “So class… did you read the books, as I assigned?”
Nobody replied.
“No one did… hmmm?” Mrs. King asked.
“We… we didn’t have books.” Billie piped up.
“Didn’t have books? Where on earth did they go? You can’t possibly use the ‘I threw my book at a duck and now its ruined’ excuse twice over!”
“Hey! That really did happen and no… we turned in our books last year!”
“Your rudeness has reminded me, you’re due to serve a detention this afternoon.” Mrs. King smiled evilly yet again.
Billie lowered her hand and looked to Pepper.
“Mrs. King… seriously, we did not have our books over break.”
“Yeah.” Several students agreed.
“And as I said, that is no excuse… I guess everyone will just have to fail the pop quiz you are-”
She was cut off by the wonderful lunch bell. Everyone tried to squeeze out of the door at once and it resulted in a traffic jam that ended with a flood of kids falling into the crowded hallway.
“She’s not just evil, she's a psychopath. She's been out to get us since the first day we had her. She actually told me that.” Jake said as the three of them sat at their own round table in the corner eating various items from either the snack machines or the lines.
Billie nodded in agreement. She sighed, putting her head down.
“I hate that woman.” Pepper said, staring longingly at the plastic knife in her hand. “If only you were metal.” She said to it.
“We need to file a complaint!” Jake announced.
“We did last year, it was denied even with 186 signatures.” Billie replied.

The biology period went by slower than a decrepit old man trying to run ten miles. Mrs. King passed out the quizzes which seemed like they were written in some alien language. She screamed and yelled at the class and promised a spot in the state penitentiary for the next kid who spoke the rest of the class. When the bell finally rang, the students darted out similar to the first way.

Billie and Pepper parted ways with Jake as they headed to their final class… cooking. The teacher of that class seemed much too overbearing and protective of the students. On the list of “things students should not touch,” the top item was “knives.” When Pepper brought up the subject that they were indeed in cooking class, the teacher passed it off with “Knives aren’t toys, honey.” Pepper countered back with “I didn’t think we’d be using toys to cut food.”

When the last bell did ring at the end of the day, Jake was already standing at the entrance to the classroom.
“Oh my gosh… my history teacher is so boring.” He said, exasperated.
“Really?” Pepper asked, “And so the trend continues… I wonder if Tsurugi has an evil Spanish teacher…” She thought aloud.
Billie walked over to the water fountain and turned it on, watching it shift through colors. "Four, three, two... brown... clear... brown again... good!" She took a sip and turned back to the group and said “I wonder how hazardous that is for my health.”
Jake and Pepper laughed proceeding to the sidewalk they used to drive home.
“We should start driving to school; we’d save so much extra sleep time.” Pepper said, faking tired as they trekked up the hill.
“I’m not driving.” Billie said.
“Yeah, neither am I.” Jake panted.
“Then I will!” Pepper offered.
“No!” Billie shouted, throwing her hands up.
"The day I give you the car is the day the world goes to hell.” Jake laughed.
“Psh, it’s not that hard to drive.”
“You’d be surrounded by 6,000 pounds of steel and twenty gallons of explosive fuel going at around forty miles per hour on a street surrounded by multiple others of the same sort.” Jake said.
“Maybe not.” Pepper murmured.

Well here's the Second Finished one! I have three more half finished ones... haha.

Chapter ? The Harvest Festival

This was the first time in while that Jake decided to drive the car to get somewhere. During the summer driving in the small sleek blue vehicle was necessary to avoid burning up under fur each feline shared. The air conditioning was a godsend from May to August. But in the fall, the car was parked in the garage and left there, unless they were going somewhere that it would be absurd to walk to. This was the case today.
There was a cold front sweeping through the city, blocked in by the mountains, and settling in over the air of the city. Pepper was dressed in two hoodies and fingerless gloves. Jake had a hoodie on underneath his leather jacket. Billie was wearing her brown jacket over her usual black hoodie and today she added a beanie on her head.
The car was driving smoothly through the mountain blockade leading to the plains which sat in between the vast land formations. The group was headed for the Harvest Festival located on the farmland which sat cozily in between the mountains.
The sights were gorgeous and were the main reason Pepper held her camera out the window, snapping photos at every chance she got. Every few miles she made Jake stop so she could get out of the car and take random photos of the leaves, trees, streams, and by now it was the view of the city from the top.
Jake pulled the car out of park for the fifth time and proceeded down the mountain on the other side. The vast festival was now in view with its signature corn maze located farthest away from the festivities. Pepper and Billie were both squished out of the back window snapping photos on Pepper’s camera, when suddenly, Pepper dropped it.
“NO!” Pepper wailed as the camera headed for the ground, but smiled as the camera turned back and was clasped firmly in Billie’s outstretched hands.
“What would you do without me?” Billie asked, grinning.
“No longer own a camera?”
“…sure.” Billie laughed, leaning back inside.
They pulled up and Jake parked in the field where the men in orange vests pointed him to. Pepper managed to get her head stuck in the window frame as Jake rolled all of them up. He sighed and rolled it down again and before long, the three of them were making their ways to the gate.
Jake paid for their tickets and handed out the green bracelets. Like little kids, Pepper and Billie snatched theirs and ran off to the pumpkin patch. Billie danced around the large vegetables, calling “We should get this one!” every few seconds.
Pepper tripped over one and landed in a pile of straw. She hopped up, eyes darting around. “Wasn’t me!” She yelped, running after Billie whose head was popping up between pumpkins every couple seconds.
“Hey Miss!” A male voice called after the feline.
Pepper swerved around, looking for who called her name. But instead of a normal man which fit the voice, a large cloaked figure holding a scythe was standing there, waving in her direction.
“AH! I’m too young to die!” Pepper cried, racing off around the large red barn which served as the check out for the people purchasing pumpkins.
The Grim Reaper followed after her. “Wait!” He called out.
Billie watched Pepper flee. “Yeah, I think we should wait till later to buy one too!” She smiled obliviously and turned away. “Oh cool! An acorn!” She grinned, pocketing the small brown shape.

Jake was strolling through the booths with his hands in his pockets, ears strained for any signs of chaos ensuing from the festival around him. He came across a scented candle booth, purchasing the pumpkin pie scents and cinnamon. Then he headed off to the other row where they had hand carved signs… it was then when he noticed the scavenger hunt sign up table.
Grinning, Jake proceeded to check it out. There was a sign with all of the details, one being the prizes given out. First prize won a GPS Navigator. Jake signed his name below all of the chicken scratch and headed for the car to put the candles away.

Billie was looking at the arts and crafts booths now. She peered up, spotting a squirrel seated atop a branch on an orange tree beside the booth which held ceramic sculptures. She waved at the tiny creature as she passed… a normal “Billie” thing to do, taking to notice to the fact that the small mammal was following her.
She stopped off at the last booth boasting its home-made fudge. She took out her money and bought a fudge square with almonds. As Billie proceeded to take a bite of the candy, she spotted the squirrel again out of the corner of her eye. It was seated on top of the wooden frame of the booth.
“Are you the same squirrel as before?” She asked it, not noticing as people around her gave her odd looks.
The squirrel, of course, did not reply. Instead, it made a small chirping noise and dove at her.
“AHH!” Billie cried, turning and fleeing as the squirrel chased after her.

Jake bolted past the booths as he made his way back in time for the scavenger hunt. He made it back to the table and received the paper listing the items that he was supposed to find. Taking no notice as Pepper zipped past him with a rush greeting, he headed for the small brush where he was sure to find the items on the list.
“This is simple, one maple leaf… oak… whatever that is… an acorn… however you pronounce that one…” He read out loud then headed for the trees. He grabbed a maple leaf from the ground and stashed in the basket he was also given. “I’m so gonna win.” He grinned.
“Ahem.” Came a voice from behind him. Jake looked around, spotting a small Dalmatian kid, his arms folded. “You’re not gonna win… cause I’m gonna win!” He boasted.
“What use could you have for a GPS?”
“Oh… plenty….” The kid smirked and ran off.
Jake shrugged and headed for the pumpkin patch for the first item on the list. He grabbed one of the papers on the table, and then raced off to the other side of the patch where he quickly found another one of the leaves. He picked up an orange one, a brown one, and then bolted off again in search of the yellow one.
Once Jake had the yellow one, he snatched an acorn from the path. He spotted Billie hiding behind a tree.
“Don’t take that!! He’ll come after you! He’s out for revenge!” She whined.
Then, suddenly looking horrorstruck, she ran off into the trees. Jake shrugged and tossed the nut into the basket, peering back at the list.
“Yes! One more thing… an oak leaf.” He smirked, peering around.
He spotted the boy from before leaning over and picking up an Oak leaf from the ground.
“Hey wait!” He called, skidding to a stop near him. “I’ll give you ten bucks for that leaf!”
“Sure!” The boy grinned, handing it over and taking the ten dollar bill.
“Sucker.” Jake muttered, smirking as the kid walked away.
The boy hopped over to an Oak tree and grabbed a leaf from the branch, dropping it into the basket.
“Oh come on!” Jake whined, sighing.
The kid turned around, eyeing Jake for a moment, and then he took off at a run towards the table.
“Oh no ya don’t!” Jake burst into a run too, racing the small boy to the table.
Jake raised his hand, spraying the boy with water, causing him to skid to a halt to get the icy liquid out of his eyes. Jake slammed his hand down on the table, showing off his basket.
The woman pawed through all of the items and then looked back at Jake.
“You’re missing the Oak Leaf.” She muttered.
The boy ran up, placing his basket on the table.
“Dammit!” Jake whined, rushing off towards the ground where his fell. He returned just in time to hear the woman tell the boy he was missing the brown leaf. He shoved the Oak Leaf in her face and smirked.
“We have our winner!” The lady called with fake enthusiasm.
“Ha! Ha! Hahaha!” Jake pointed at the boy. “Yes! I win! I beat you!”
“Yeah, you beat an eight year old.” The boy stuck his tongue out. “Don’t worry, I’ll find another way to get that GPS system… and when I do… no one is safe! No one!”
He ran away.
Jake raised an eyebrow in the boy’s direction and then shrugged.

Pepper was hiding under the table where the baked good were sold. She peered out under the table cloth and met the gaze of an old hooded skeleton.
“AHHH!” She yelped, jumping up and wiggling out from under the table. She fled off towards the entrance to the haunted hay ride.
“Wait! Ma’am! Come back!” The Grim Reaper called out, sighing. He sped up to a run and followed after her.
Pepper skidded to a halt in front of the fence. She hopped up onto the wire, pawing her way up it.
“Hey! Ma’am! The hay ride is closed until sunset!” An employee called.
Pepper hopped down and seized the front of the teenager’s shirt.
“You don’t understand! I’m gonna die! Die!” She cried, spotting the Grim Reaper again and running the other way.
The Grim Reaper paused, out of breath beside the confused teenager. “Jeez… I’m getting too old for this.” He muttered, starting at a jog after her. “Ma’am! You dropped your cell phone!” He called in a raspy voice, but Pepper was too far away to hear.

Jake was waiting beside the entrance to the corn maze, cell phone in hand. Pepper stopped quickly, falling forward and face planting into the straw ground.
“There you are… I’ve been trying to call both of you!” Jake said. “Look what I won!” He grinned, showing her the sleek GPS system.
“Cool!” Pepper panted, getting up.
“Now if we could just find Billie we could go through the maze!” Jake said, peering around the crowds for the familiar blonde.
“No time! My life is at stake!” Pepper cried, pulling him into the corn stalks.
“What?” Jake asked, staring at her. He pulled away from her clawing grip and headed the way they came. “We have to wait for Billie!” He said. He turned the corner and hit a dead end. “Oh no…. we’re already lost!” He shouted.
Pepper was pawing her way across the ground. “We can find the way out… come on… its not like we haven’t been lost before.”
“Okay, you getting lost in the basement when you got that bowl stuck on your head does not count!”
“No… that time we got lost in the graveyard in the woods!”
“Ohh… yeah… I suppose it is like that… just minus all the corpses and spider web- Pepper! Stop trying to burn the corn down!”
“What? It worked in the graveyard.” Pepper defended, retracting her hand from the browning stalks.

“We’ve been lost for an hour! I need rest!”
“The longer you rest, the less daylight we have… c’mon!”
“But I’m cold… and hungry… let’s camp here for the night… we can eat the corn!”
“They removed the corn before opening it.”
“Then what’s this… eeew.”
“Come on Pepper… let’s just go.” Jake pulled her by her ankle.
Pepper folded her arms and fell limp as Jake pulled her along. He sighed, dropping her leg and sitting down on a pile of straw.
“This is hopeless! We’re lost!” He cried.
“I got it!” Pepper cried.
“No! We’re not setting anything on fire!”
“No… your GPS!”
“My GPS?” Jake asked, looking down at the bag clutched in his left hand. “It won’t work out here… it hasn’t been charged at all yet.” He sighed. “And besides-”
“Psh… charged.” Pepper laughed, taking it from him. Her hand sparked with electricity and she grabbed its plug. The GPS system burst to life, showing them the welcome screen.
“Please enter your destination.” The mechanical woman’s voice said.
Pepper thought for a moment. “Exit… of… corn… maze.” She typed in.
“Location not found. Please enter a new destination.” The thing replied.
“Dangit! Well there goes my idea.” Pepper sighed, putting it away. Jake only sighed, touching his fingers to his temples. “If only Billie were here!” Pepper sighed. “She could get us out!”
“No… we’d probably be even more lost!” Jake joked.
“Very true.”
“AH!”
Pepper looked up as a scream sounded from the tree branches above them. Suddenly the blonde cat fell from one, landed right side up beside them. She shook her head, shaking off the disorientation and grinned at them.
“Hey guys!” She said happily. “I’m so glad that Squirrel stopped chasing me.” She said, dusting off her hands.
“Aha! My words are magic!” Pepper smirked.
Billie stood up, peering around the maze. “So… any idea on how to get out of here?” She asked.
“Nope… we’re lost.” Jake sighed. He stood as well, helping Pepper up.
“Come on… we should start moving now so we can be home in time to feed Gordon.” Billie said, checking her watch. It was closing in on four o’clock.
Billie led the group around a few turns, doubling back a few times and then around again, to the same spot the three of them started together from and then to another dead end. They turned back once again and finally came to a fork… but this one had a sign erected in between the two separate paths.
It read:

One path leads you home and the other leads you to the depths of the haunted maze… answer the riddle correctly and you will be led to freedom… fail to answer correctly and you will be forever lost in the haunted corn maze!

Pepper read the sign aloud and her eyes grew wide. “Come on! Our lives depend on it!” She said, looking around for the sign that held the riddle.
“If only our lives depended on a riddle all those other times… we’d probably have half the scars…” Jake muttered.
“Shh.” Billie hushed, pointing at a black cat that had just emerged from behind the sign. He grinned at them darkly and prepared to speak.
Take one out and scratch my head, I am now black but once was red. What am I?” He spoke in an eerie voice.
“You’re a ca-” Jake grabbed Pepper before she could answer the riddle with his species instead of the correct answer. She muttered against his hand which was clamped firmly over her mouth.
“Umm… once red… now black…”
“Scratch head…”
Jake let go of Pepper who glared at him. She scratched her own head in thought and then snapped her fingers. “Fire! Setting the maze on fire… we use a-”
“No! We’re completing the riddle… no fire!” Jake said firmly, still thinking.
“Umm… scratch my head… I don’t know.” Billie sighed.
“No! I know!” Pepper piped up.
“No! Don’t say it!” Jake shouted.
“Yes! I know the answer! He’s a-”
“Pepper!”
“No!”
“-match!” Pepper grinned.
‘That’s right!” The black cat grinned evilly. “I’m a match… turn left and you’ll emerge at the pumpkin patch… oh and don’t forget to buy some… that’s my paycheck.”
Billie and Jake were still staring at the grinning feline before them wide-eyed. Pepper simply brushed it off and turned left. Billie and Jake slowly followed, indeed emerging at the pumpkin patch.

Jake backed the car up to the gate to get the heavy pumpkins in. They bought five… one for each and then one for pie and the last large one was for the front porch on Halloween. Pepper sat in the backseat stroking her pumpkin which she named Sam.
Jake was hopping into the front seat at the sun set, watching the people in costume heading for the contest which was starting. He spotted a Grim Reaper and sighed. “So unoriginal…” He said. Then the Reaper made a bee line for the car.
‘There you are!” He called, pointing to the backseat.
“What did you do?” Jake asked.
“AHH!”
“You dropped your cell phone in the pumpkin patch… here ya go!” The Grim Reaper smiled, handing it into the car.
Pepper stared at him. “Oh… th-thanks…” She muttered, smiling slightly.
Billie laughed, hopping into the car. Jake thanked the man in costume and started the engine. He set up the GPS system on the dash board and typed in their address.
“Turn left.” The machine said.
“Don’t tell me what to do.” Jake snapped at it.

The sun had just begun to set past the mountain tops when they made their ways through the vast ridges and back towards the cozy city of Metropolis. Pepper fell asleep, hugging onto the pumpkin and Billie proceeded to snap more photos, including one of her friend in the backseat.

As promised, the Halloween Installment of the Autumn Chronicles!

Chapter ? Halloween

Ah, Halloween. It is the one holiday where everyone can be what they’re always dreaming of being for day… be it a vampire, pop-star, cowboy, or even a zombie… if you can dream it, you can find a way to dress up as it. The air in Metropolis was boiling with delight from most of its residents.
Decorations flooded street corners, lamp-posts, store fronts, homes, and most other public places. Pumpkin patches were crowded with families scrambling for their future jack-o-lanterns and costume stores were buzzing with the last minute shoppers searching for Halloween props. For once “Crazy House” had gotten to everything early. And that right there was the main reason that the stores were not on fire right now.
The leaves quivered on the branches almost in fright, orange, yellow, red and so on they were in color. They were preparing to fall from the trees as the month progressed towards November, and maybe another fun Thanksgiving?
Yes, most places in Metropolis were gearing up for the big night. Houses were filling the candy bowls, adding an extra fake ghost to the tree branches, and checking the party guest lists. Residents checked their costumes, perhaps checking to see if all details were in place for its use. Haunted houses made sure the actors were geared up for their performances.
For a certain house on Lyons Road everything was running smoothly… for once. The outside was perfect. The place had been transformed into a haunted house. Jake designed it himself, hanging fake spider webs, ghosts and fake bones and corpses all over, spraying fake blood on a white sheet which hung against the garage door. Ghosts hung off trees and lights flashed. A stereo was even hooked up to play eerie sounds throughout the evening.
The lawn was transformed into a graveyard with random sayings on wooden tombstones, a shovel sticking out of a mound of dirt. Body parts and bones scattered the browning grass and stuck out of random parts.
Inside the haunted house, the three inhabitants were busy as usual. They were buzzing about, adding random effects to the décor inside. Pepper was fixing the spider webs on the wall. Billie was dancing around putting fake bones on the tables and the floor while singing along with “The Monster Mash.” Jake carried in a large tub to the dining room table which he filled quickly with a flick of his wrist. He emptied a bag of apples into it while taking a tray of candy apples out of the kitchen and dropping it onto the table. He placed bottles of orange soda on the table and other creepy looking treats.
Pepper put a wooden coffin against the wall and smirked as she added webs to it. Billie kicked their backpacks into the closet and took out some fake spiders. Jake pulled the un-carved pumpkins from the kitchen and put them on the cobweb covered table. He placed a bowl to the side from one and took a knife out, ready to strike.
Billie pointed at the batch of un-carved pumpkins and looked back at Jake seriously.
“I don’t think we should carve them… the Great Pumpkin might get angry and kill us! …or worse! Kill us and then… carve us! Or worse.. carve us ALIVE!”
“Billie, the Great Pumpkin isn’t real!”
“Yes he is! Linus said so!” Billie grinned, pointing at the DVD case on the table. It was an “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!” movie.
Jake laughed and shook his head. Pepper buzzed by, heading for the kitchen to grab another one of the activities.
“Halloween rules.” Billie smiled, holding up a fake bat which she was hanging from the ceiling.
“Hey, Billie… test the lights!” Jake said smiling.
“Okay!” Billie replied, pausing to hit the replay button on the Monster Mash song.
She hopped over to the light switch and flicked it off leaving the house not very dark due to it being daylight but still lit with an eerie orange, purple, and green glow. She clapped.
“Awesome Jake! I love it!”
“Me too!” Pepper added, hanging a pumpkin picture on the wall and pinning its face randomly onto it. “This game is so lame, yet the party would not be the same if Zippo didn’t pin the face on CB’s back at least once.
“Agreed!” Billie said happily! She peered out the front window.
The sun was hanging low over the trees and the orange glow began to stretch over the street as another chilly wind blew over the neighborhood. She spotted some children dressed as Batman and a princess being escorted by their parents down the sidewalk.
“Early trick-or-treaters!” Billie called out, smiling widely. “I’m going to start my costume.” She added, jumping up the stairs.
“Same here!” Pepper replied, joining her on the landing.
Jake smiled and crossed the room and pick up the large candy bowl. As he did so, the doorbell rang. He headed for it, flickering the porch lights for effect as he opened the door.
“Trick-or-treat!” One of the children called out. Jake dropped several pieces of candy into their outstretched bags. They headed for the sidewalk again as Jake noticed a large white mass heading around them to the door.
It ducked through the doorway and turned around in the hall, looking fairly out of place in the small entry hall as it was so large.
“Nice costume Vas!” Jake said, smiling.

Upstairs, Billie was applying the latex to the rubber cuts before sticking them to her face. She danced around while waiting for it to dry before adding the blood and ooze. Pepper was busy spraying her face with pitch black dye to cover the lighter color of her muzzle.
As the latex dried, Billie took out then white powder to make the color of the cuts blend in with her fur. She then brought out the blood gel and filled the pours of the cuts. She let it drip down from the cuts and then took a sponge to get stick it all in her fur. She added some more blood drips here and there and splattered her hands with fake blood.
Pepper re-entered the bathroom wearing all black. She looked almost like a silhouette. All she would need to do was close her eyes and she would become a plain shadow. She smiled at her reflection and popped her headphones in, experimenting with random dance moves to see how it would look.
“Nice!” Billie laughed, adding purple makeup under her eyes.
She vanished from the room and grabbed a red-stained t-shirt from her best post. She then tried to fit it over her head but her cuts were still wet so it proved difficult.
“Note to self! Put on clothes before make-up!” She laughed, stretching the collar wide to fit her head through.
Failing, she grabbed some scissors and muttered apologies to the shirt before tearing through the collar to fit her head through without grazing the makeup.

The doorbell sounded several more times before Jake’s footsteps were heard in the hallway, meaning that he was going to put his own costume on. Voices filled the hall below and Billie hopped down the stairs. She smiled widely at the large form standing in the living room. Pepper was right behind her.
Vas was covered in two sheets. One with eye holes and the other with painted on eyes. Billie grinned, shuffling over to him to say hi. She took hold of one of ghosts and hugged it.
“Hey Vas! Happy Halloween!” She grinned.
“Um… wrong end.” Vas’s voice came from the other ghost.
“That totally didn’t happen.” Billie muttered, turning for the other ghost to hug. She was careful not to let her blood rub off on him.
Also standing in the living room was Tom… or was it Vincent? Either way he was dressed up as what appeared to be a very pale werewolf. He had white makeup covering his face yet also had a thick covering of black hair and fangs. His clothes were torn and one sleeve was white, exposing a painted white hand emerging from it.
“Hey… whoever you are today!” Pepper grinned, high-fiving their friend.
“Tom.” He clarified. “We couldn’t really decide. Vincent said werewolf… we compromised.” He said, smiling slightly as he held up his arm. “So… er… I see you guys were overboard on the decorations. I can probably guess you like holidays… or is it only this one?”
“ALL OF THEM!” Billie grinned, walking by whistling Jingle Bells, now.

The group sat down around the pumpkins a few moments later to carve the last three for the windows.
“Here Pepper… take the knife and just carve the top… on second thought, let me do it.” Jake said, adding a laugh at the end.
They set to work, Pepper now with a small cutting tool was adding eyes to the orange pumpkin’s face. Billie had gone off to the side and got busy with her own while Jake, Tom, and Vas tackled the last one.
Finally, Billie flipped her pumpkin around the show the others. The face of the pumpkin was carved to look like it was screaming while the top with the stem was replaced and painted like blood was pouring from it. Seeds were scattered around on top to give it the appearance that it was bleeding seeds.
“It’s a Sylar victim!” She grinned. “Get it?”
Everyone stared at her.
“Um… not funny?” She asked, face falling.
“No.” Jake answered, grinning ever-so-slightly.
Pepper continued to carve hers and Jake flipped the guys’ creation around. It was a smart carving of a ghost and on the side a werewolf was upon a hill howling at the moon. Vas headed off to the kitchen to clean off his hands as he was declared the official seeder of the pumpkin.
Suddenly, Pepper burst out laughing. “I get it!” She called through gasps, pointing at Billie’s pumpkin. Billie slapped her forehead.
Pepper moved her pumpkin around to show off carvings of five stick figures with the word “RIOT!” above them. She grinned.
“Pumpkin-more!” She smiled.
Billie was the only one who got it.

Within the hour, the sun had set and the eerie glow overcame the house, otherwise known as Jake’s lighting job. Trick-or-treaters graced the house every few minutes until the last two guests showed up and the candy bowl was place outside with a not-so-dependable “take two” sign.
Tsurugi, dressed as a large cardboard and who knew what else spoon joined them along with Zippo who was a wizard straight out of the internet roleplaying games. ChaosBolt also showed up, pale and dressed as a vampire with bats zooming around his head. He bragged about how Halloween was the best time to show off his illusions before stuffing his hands in his cloak pockets and wondering aloud about why they still were going trick-or-treating at their ages.
Jake had tossed around pillow cases and slung his own over his shoulder. Pepper was dancing happily alongside Billie ahead smiling over at Tomcent’s empty and darkened home.
“I know who lives in you!” She grinned.
Everyone simply laughed and headed over to the next house on the street, which was lit up with a jack-o-lantern in the window. There were orange lights hanging from the porch.
A man opened the door holding a candy bowl. He gave them each a few pieces and smiled.
“Happy Halloween, kids!” He grinned.
“Merry Christmas!” Pepper replied.
“Sure…” The man replied, scratching his head.
“Oh awesome!” Billie smiled, “I got a Butterfinger!”
“I got a rock.” Zippo declared, scratching his head.
The second house they headed to was decorated to the hills. Fake thunder sounded from a CD player, mist covered the graveyard of a front garden from a smoke machine. Ghosts hung from the trees and lights hung from the branches giving them a purple glow. Spider webs covered the porch and upon a chair inside the door was a zombie looking man holding a bowl.
“Ahh, lights!” Pepper screamed.
“Lights?” Jake asked, raising an eyebrow. “…nevermind…”
They approached the front porch and Jake stepped forward. “Trick-or treat!” He smiled. The man jumped and groaned scarily.
“AH!” Pepper cried, turning and running away from the porch.
“You’d think after all we’ve been through, she wouldn’t be scared by Halloween…” CB muttered, opening his bag to receive the candy. “Oh sweet, I love these.” He said, holding up some colorfully wrapped substance.
“I got a rock.” Zippo said, showing off a small grey lump in his hand.
As they headed to the next house, a small child laughed at Zippo’s costume. Zippo muttered to himself about tracking his down and infecting his computer while Tsurugi pulled a spoon from her candy bag and chucked it at the boy before turning around and whistling casually.
Everyone stifled laughs.
“You were a good spoon… your sacrifice won’t be in vain.” Tsurugi saluted as the boy picked it up and ran off.
They spent a few minutes at each house and so far made a large circle around the forest neighborhood. With heavier bags, they approached the last stretch of homes. Luckily it was very chilly so there was no sweat or fatigue from being in costumes. CB’s bats flew all around him, startling younger kids and amazing people who assumed them to be fake. Tsurugi continued to throw spoons at random victims while Zippo tossed around some small fireworks to mimic magical spells while shouting random things that one would hear in an RPG. He couldn’t help but miss the reference to a great Halloween classic by all the rocks weighing down his pillow case.
Jake hid behind some trees and took some kids by surprise in his zombie attire. Pepper danced around and received several laughs from people who finally realized what she was. Kids huddled and ran away from Vas due to his size rather than costume.
The gang headed up the garden path of one of the last houses and Billie stopped, admiring the pumpkin on the deck.
“Look at that pumpkin! I mean it's so good. Why couldn't mine have been carved like that? Huh?!” She ranted, sighing finally. She poked it, trying to find words to express how amazing it was. “Its... its so...”
“…Plastic.” CB finished for her, opting not to laugh at her blond-ness.
“Shuddup.” Billie muttered, turning to the candy bowl.
“Whoa!” Pepper cried, picking up a large snickers bar. “The candy here is amazing!” She smiled.
“Watch the next house has nothing but raisinettes!” Billie said, laughing out loud.
“Don’t jinx it!” Jake called.
They all clambered off of the porch and down the path but stopped at Pepper uttered a loud scream.
“What happened?” Tsurugi asked.
“I thought the spider was fake!” Pepper cried. “But it wasn’t…”
“Gosh Pepper… is it dead?” Jake asked.
“No!”
“Kill it!” Tom called out.
“Uh… ok!” Pepper whacked her hand against the porch several times.
“Ok… its dead.” She confirmed, rejoining them.
“Jeez… that coulda been bad.” Billie said.
“Yeah… my hand could have gotten bitten… spreading poison all through out my body and sending me to the ER where I’d receive medicines and one of those could have made me sick, bed-ridding me for days and not allowing me to go to school for weeks!” Pepper stopped panting.
“Don’t even joke about that.” Jake said flatly.
“Yeah.” Billie agreed.
They headed for the next house and a man stood on the porch holding up a bowl. As they approached, he raised an eyebrow and looked at the group oddly.
“Aren’t you a bit old for Halloween?” He asked.
“Aren’t YOU a bit old for Halloween?” Pepper asked, mockingly.
“Dude, you’re never too old for free candy.” Jake grinned.
The man shrugged and tipped raisinettes into their bags before peering into the empty bowl as he reached Zippo. He shrugged, bent down and picked up a rock from the ground and dropped it in Zippo’s bag. Zippo sighed and moved on behind the rest, opting not to cry out at his bad luck.

The group had finally completed the neighborhood. They all tiredly poured through the door, passing the empty candy bowl on the way and dropping their overstuffed sacks on the floor.
Pepper grinned at the décor around the house before hopping up. “Okay! Bye Halloween!” She grinned, seemingly pulling a wreath out of nowhere and putting it around her neck. “Time for Christmas!”
“What? Pepper… Christmas? What about Thanksgiving?” Tom… who now appeared to be Vincent asked.
Vas seated himself uncomfortably and began to sift through the candy. Billie and Zippo too were sitting cross legged and pawing through their candy loads.
“Psh, we’re not doing that this year.” Pepper shrugged.
“Wha? Of course we are… but you might not hear about it.” Jake shrugged.
Pepper laughed. “Yeah, I guess we’re just running out of ideas since last year’s.” She shrugged. “Anyways, Christmas is going to be big this year.” She grinned.
“Pepper, stop talking about Christmas! Its October.”
“But the Pop Tart commercials say Christmastime is here!” Pepper smiled.
Jake rolled his eyes and headed to the other room for the apple bobbing. “Come on Pepper, I finally found a sport you’ll be good at!”
Tsurugi laughed, “Careful Jake, she might drown.”
“Drown? Come on!” Pepper whined, following the two. “Apple bobbing is easy, watch-”
Pepper ducked her head into the tub and came up moments later coughing and spluttering. She formed a fist “You’ve made a powerless yet persistent enemy today, apples.” She said threateningly and dunked her head back in again.
“Whoa, jackpot!” Billie called from the floor in the living room. She held up several of her favorite chocolate bars.
Zippo let out a small cry and removed a small stone from his bag. “I can’t help but miss the reference here.” He muttered, scratching his head with the corner of the “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!” DVD.

Off in the corner Pepper choked and coughed as she sunk her head in the tub once again after an apple. Tsurugi and Jake laughed together in the corner as they snacked on some of the treats Jake had laid out. Zippo had gone to join them as his candy bag was unreliable. Billie and Vas turned on a movie and ChaosBolt attended to the door to chase off any trick-or-treaters who dared ring the doorbell in search of candy. Tomcent had joined the audience laughing at Pepper bob for apples.

Yes, all in all, the Halloween was a good one… but just wait until Christmas… but now we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

if you can dream it, you can find a way to dress up as it.
Sadly, thats not completely true, I can't find a way to dress up as what I think up...Then again, the things I dream up are so friggin twisted, that it would not only be nearly impossible to make a costume of it, but it would give many, many people nightmares.

Yeah.

So, anyway, hilarious chapter. I LMAOed at the Charlie Brown jokes and the Poptart Commercial reference.
